Jacobs has an opening for a Technical Writer in the Columbia, MD area.The Tech Writer will be responsible for:

  • Performing technical editing of technical reports and tool-related user guides; developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

  • Consolidating technical inputs and analyses and producing a logical, understandable IA-related document

  • Interpreting engineering and maintenance drawings, operational procedures, and absorbing and synthesizing large quantities of computer-related information.

  • Proof reading, editing and managing work load from team members.



Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires two (2) years of college with courses in business administration, industrial management, or appropriate discipline with eight (8) years of progressive and relevant experience. Additional relevant education may be substituted for progressive experience.

  • Requires good oral and written communication skills and analytical capability

  • Eight (8) years of experience writing original content, editing, and extensive proof-reading of technical documents, manuals, standard operating procedures and user guides for non-technical audiences. A Bachelor's degree in a technical IT field may be substituted for four (4) years of experience

  • Two (2) years of experience in the past five (5) years with desktop publishing, automated word processing, and otherdigital information technology applications, including World Wide Web publishing

  • Active TS/SCI with polygraph

Additional Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in a team environment.

  • Experience with proof reading, editing and managing work load from team members

Essential Functions:

Physical Requirements:

  • Working at a computer or desk (Considerations: Sitting, Eyes, Hands)

  • May involve long periods of sitting

Work Environment:

  • An inside office environment (Considerations: Closed quarters, lighting, and temperature fluctuations)

  • Needs to be able to work well with and support co-workers and clients

  • Needs to have clear, concise and accurate communication skills

Equipment and Machines:

  • Standard office equipment and machines, computer workstation


  • Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. Regular attendance is necessary and required
